Cas’s Book Review – The Lady Phoenix

4 out of 5 stars

Book by Juliette Willows

Romance, Suspense, and a Thrilling Ending.

Hadley Phoenix has escaped a dark post. With her abuser behind bars, life seems idyllic in her new home at the picture-perfect Haven Shore, especially when she meets the handsome sheriff, Jonah Sterling. Jonah swore off love when his entire life imploded. Pouring himself into his work, he proudly wears his sheriff’s badge and keeps Haven Shore safe. But that’s all about to change when he meets Hadley. Someone is hunting her… and is determined to destroy her and Jonah. Can Hadley and Jonah’s love survive the evil that now hunts them? Will they find their happy-ever-after?

This novel is a treat for romance fans. It follows all the typical tropes of the genre, but weaves mystery and suspense into the narrative. My only criticism is that it’s obvious where the story is going from the beginning and who the culprit is, but it is still enjoyable to read. The writing is clear and easy to follow. Even though the story has a contemporary setting, it is definitely a romanticised version of reality.

Hadley and Jonah have a compelling love story. Their characters are well developed and their backstory, which is interweaved with the plot, provides a better understanding of their personalities and choices.

If you’re a fan of the romance genre and want to experience some escapism with a guaranteed happy ending, add The Lady Phoenix to your TBR list.
